unit 9 reflection

In this unit, we covered a lot of stuff which was very helpful. in the being  of the unit we learned about domains and kingdoms. there are 3 domains which are Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya. Archaea lives near hydrothermal vents and hot springs, keeps in track with animals digestive system. Bacteria which is bracken down to 3 stages actinomycetes which produce antibiotics, symbiotic bacteria which lives in guts and help with digestion, cyanobacteria which are photosynthetic bacteria. lastly eukary which helps us understand the true life. Eukarya includes the 4 kingdoms which are protists, fungi, plantae, Animalia. Protista is a very diverse unicellular of multicellular, plants like ore animal like. Fungi which is a decomposer, heterotrophic found in all habitats on earth. plantae is a nonvascular( no tissue to transport water and sugar). Animalia is a consumer and also heterotrophs multicellular as protista.

We also learned about invertebrates. Animals are diploid and usually reproduce sexually. Diploid cells have two copies of each chromosome. Hox genes determine the position of cells differentiation. A hox genes mutation leads to the development of a body structure in the wrong position. We talked about flatworms and how they have three classes, which are planarians, flukes, tapeworms. Mollusks and other bilateral animals have a complete digestive tract.

This unit also covered chordates mr orrie broke down the vodcast. Chordates pt1 talked about that the phylum Chordata contains all vertebrates and some invertebrates. Fish use specialized organs called gills to breathe under water. In chordata it talked about reptiles and that they have several characteristics, dry scales, reproduce by laying or amniotic eggs. Reptiles also have two reproductive strategies. Overseas reptiles aredeposit eggs into an external nest. Viviparous reptiles certain eggs and give birth to offsprings.  We recently did a posting that was about how the world evolves. For my presentation I picked fruit flies, I did a google slide explaining the history behind fruit flies and how they affect the world.

In this unit, we first learned about species, which are a group of individuals that can reproduce. the rise of two or more species from one existing is called speculation, some causes of speculation are behavioural isolation which is caused by changes in courtship mating behaviours or occupying different niches. another cause can be temporal isolation which is when timing prevents reproduction between population. another thing we covered was constant change and we also reviewed genes and alleles. natural selection was a big topic we talked about in class and in our groups.
